Student life at Redcliffe

What is it like being a student at Redcliffe?

Life at Redcliffe

As a Redcliffe student you will join a world-wide community of students. Some are at the College for six months as they complete the CertPG or DipPG stage of a Field Linguistics or Literacy Development MA. Others are here for a few weeks or days on an MA study intensive.

Facilities
The College is set in the beautiful Cathedral grounds in Gloucester city centre. The enclosed garden offers space to relax outside, or you can explore the Cathedral grounds and browse the nearby shops.

The historic buildings house lecture rooms and library, with dedicated study space. There is a good wireless connection throughout the buildings (and even the garden) for your laptop or iPad, and the facility to scan and print via the library computers. The electronic library catalogue has a detailed search facility, making it easy to find just the right book.

Worship
Alongside lectures and study, times to worship  are built into college life.  Community worship times on Mondays and Wednesdays allow students and staff to learn from each other and pray together.  Students are also encouraged to be part of wider Cathedral community and are welcome to attend daily prayer and worship.

Social times
As well as coffee-times each morning, lunch-times offer a great chance to relax and spend time together. On Wednesdays the College community share a soup lunch together. During weekend intensives, lunch and dinner is provided each day.  Summer School students have a main meal lunch provided on weekdays.  On days where meals are not provided, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or use a local cafe, takeaway or restaurant.

Students often arrange informal social events in the evenings and at weekends. They are also encouraged to get involved in a local church where possible.

Counselling
We employ a specialised counsellor who has many years of experience in both counselling and working in mission. Individuals or couples who require counselling contact our counsellor directly to arrange an appointment on a confidential basis. This service is freely available to Redcliffe students and is based locally.

Life away from Redcliffe

All our postgraduate programmes involve periods of personal study away from the College.

Our course leaders and module coordinators will be happy to discuss issues that have been raised through your work and you can arrange to talk with them via email/ Skype. The regular MA cafes cover issues such as study skills or perspectives on particular subjects that you are studying.

If you are in Gloucester, you can use the College library during working hours.  All students can access online resources via the virtual learning environment and the library catalogue, and keep up to date with resources via 'The Common Room' facebook group and online blogs.
