The MA in Contemporary Missiology gives you
firm understanding of mission approaches and issues.
All students take two compulsory modules which...
- explore approaches to the concept of missio Dei (God’s mission in the world) and holistic mission, and give a thorough orientation on skills for postgraduate missiological research and study.
- focus on a number of crucial issues that demand attention as we participate in God’s mission in the contemporary world.
There are five streams. Each stream offers a different combination of optional modules.
This MA offers an opportunity to develop a bespoke programme of study that will prove relevant to you and your situation. Choose from any of the modules in any combination.
- develop your broader interests through a variety of topical modules.
- these include leadership, globalisation, European mission, Bible and mission, justice issues and reconciliation and advocacy.
Alternatively, specialise your study by completing the modules for any one of these four areas:
- gain a thorough understanding of the breadth of issues which impact on mission in contemporary Europe: migration, secularisation, urbanisation, inter-church relations, Islam, and concepts of European identity.
- reflect on the practice of Christian mission across Europe, both in its traditional and missional forms and evaluate your own practice in the context of integral mission in Europe.
- gain a thorough grounding in justice issues and approaches to justice and advocacy with an emphasis on Christian perspectives.
- understand how advocacy, reconciliation and peace-building are practised.
- gain a greater understanding of a missional reading of the Bible and how the Bible relates to mission and to contemporary culture.
- be equipped to use the Bible for mission in cross-cultural contexts either in the UK or the rest of the world.
- develop professionally by reflecting on issues and approaches within Scripture Engagement.
- reflect on your practice and develop your skills through a professional Scripture Engagement project.
