Course Leader for MA Literacy Programme Development
Catherine combines her responsibilities at Redcliffe College with a role as Director for Global Language and Development Services for SIL International.
She began her education career working as a teacher of hearing-impaired children in Rotherham, South Yorkshire but lived in Asia for more than 23 years, returning in 2014 to be based in Gloucester. She began her work with SIL International in the Philippines where she was involved in linguistic research and literacy and education activities and has also spent four years living in Bangladesh, supporting education and development programmes among minority ethnolinguistic communities.
Catherine was also Director of LEAD Asia (www.leadimpact.org), a unit of SIL International in Asia and lived in Thailand while serving in this role. She still travels extensively, supporting Bible translation and literacy programme development internationally.
Catherine holds a PhD in Education from the University of Wales, UK where she focused on language-in-education policy and planning for non-dominant language communities. She has taught graduate courses on literacy and education in the Philippines at Alliance Graduate School, in Korea at ARILAC (Asia Research Institute of Language and Culture) at Handong University, Korea and at Mahidol University, Bangkok and Payap University, Chiangmai, Thailand.
Catherine is Scottish by birth and also has a special love of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. She possesses an eclectic variety of music which she listens to almost constantly.
